The poles debate!

March 2nd, 2007

CHARLIE: We found this video recently of Tom Wallisch a 4FRNT skis rider, in a video segment without poles. I think it just looks a lot less clumsy, and more laid-back. Check it out:

TIM: Well….this is where I’m supposed to argue the case for poles. Watch the show to see loads of examples of nausious riding with them. I think I might just show this video…..you’ll get the point!

What do you guys reckon??

Rain!

February 24th, 2007

We’re in February, which should be the month for snow in the Alps, but it poured with rain this morning! We’re walking around the apartment in T-shirts and shorts without the heating on!

People say we won’t have snow as we know it in 20 years - I’m worried it’ll be much sooner…

07-08 Season Skis

February 16th, 2007

So as promised on the show, here are some more of next seasons ski designs. Personally I think they are looking really sick this year, so much better than last year:

4FRNT (Insanely cool designs!)

4FRNT

Amplid

Armada AR6

Armada

Dynastar (Big debate seems to be going on about the troublemakers, a lot of people dissing them. I personally quite like them.)

Dynastar

Faction (Same graphics as last year, but word on the piste is they’re gonna include a 175cm 112mm next year!)
Faction

Fischer (You can’t really tell from the picture, but the tip of the ski has super-raised corners and the tail has a fin! Like a surfboard.)

Rossignol

Salomon (Possibly the first Salomons ever that I am a fan of! Hooray!)

Salomon

Volkl (Probably my favourites, they are rad!)

Volkl

These are just my favourites from each of the main companies, if you want to see more then hit this link. It’s actually a russian site but it seems to have them all!

Let me know what you think of this years selection, and which are your favourites?

It was Jonno Verity’s fault!

February 13th, 2007

Clearly there should be some sort of hazard/caution/safety warning on Jonno’s Mountain Tips!

It has been snowing quite a lot this evening in Morzine! I had just dropped off a friend up towards Avoriaz (without snowchains) and on the way home decided to attempt some ‘tips’ on getting out of control!

Specifically it was the half-handbrake-turn-slide that sent me careering into a ditch!!!

So before we get sued…

####WARNING! ATTEMPT ALL TIP/TRICKS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!####

P.S. Thankyou to random Tom in the white van for pulling us out! I’m off to get some snowchains! Laters!

400km for a halfpipe!

February 10th, 2007

So we have a new feature in the pipeline (excuse the pun!), which is basically a video diary with Dan Wakeham. All about the highs and lows of being a pro-snowboarder, and a glimpse into his day-to-day halfpipe training.

Today we went all the way to Bardonecchia to ride the halfpipe (the same pipe as the 2006 olympics) and to get some helmet cam footage of Dan. We set off on the 3hr journey at 8am and, due to our van getting lost in the daytime, had to wait till 8pm to return home!

Nonetheless it was well worth it, we got some sick footage, rode a really nice pipe and got to see Dan ripping in the flesh, which was worth it alone!

Just as a little teaser, check out this cab 900!

Just… woah!

February 8th, 2007

This is the Eiger, it is probably one of Switzerland’s most extreme mountains!

Eiger

This is some nut-cases from ‘Acro-base’ making the first ever ski-gliding (speed-flying) descent of the Eiger!!

If you don’t think it’s THAT extreme at first….wait till he pops off the north face!

Jools confesses to Gian Simmen

February 8th, 2007

After years of keeping it buried deep down, Jools finally tells Gian Simmen how she feels about him!

There are many good impersonations of Dubya but Will does one of the best!

If the short highlights on the last episode weren’t enough for you, you can check out the full 1hr44min highlights of this year’s winter X games here:

Woohoo!

For purely journalistic purposes we decided to head to the riders lounge for the after party of the comp this week, we also heard there was free booze!

It was pretty cool, although fairly laidback. Also it seemed all the riders had disappeared by 10 so we didn’t hang around all that long.

Just enough time to peruse the buffet and remind our bodies what vegetables were!

Charlie ripping it up at the buffet! Timmy making the most of the free beer!

Crazy flips

February 1st, 2007

Imagine what this guy could do on a pair of skis…

Episode 30

February 1st, 2007

This week the O’neill profreestyle competition is on in Avoriaz. So as soon as we had filmed the links we headed up there to get some interviews. As well as Freddy, on this weeks ep, we managed to get another four interviews with some pretty big names (we’ll keep it a surprise!).

However! We also discovered if we were going to be hanging out in riders lounges at these competitions, we are going to have to seriously work on our table-football skills!

As has happened before, we didn’t confirm Emily till just a few days before the episode was filmed. She lives in Chamonix, so we were back over there in the woods.

Interestingly, we didn’t decide on either the couch surfing or the burp contest until we were actually sat down and filming. In a trial run of the ‘couch surf’, I actually caught my shins on the sofa as I jumped over! This not only caused great pain to my already fucked up, skier shins. It also broke the sofa!! Oops!

The wheelchair backflip

January 24th, 2007

Aaron Fotheringham rides his wheelchair harder than most people ride their boards. This is some wicked and inspiring footage:

Finally!

January 23rd, 2007

Well the snow has finally come! Even down in Morzine now, as we’re inside editing episode 28, the beautiful white stuff is falling outside! It’s not very heavy at the moment, but hopefully higher up into the mountains it’ll be dumping, and it’s apparently snowing all over Europe. If it lasts for a while we may even be able to hit the powder tomorrow morning after releasing #28 to the world…

Well, back to work - gotta get this finished!
